The Italian Job

FLASH FILM WORKS worked on a remake of the 1969 film "The Italian Job" directed by F. Gary Gray and starring Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron.  We performed a handful of fx shots in the film, including creating 3D people and vehicles and blue screen composites.

For this shot in the film, we made a 3D version of the actor, who then needed to float up thru the surface of the water. The water was made up of several composited elements but the water around the body was all 3D water.

For this shot of the van sinking, we recreated the van in 3D to match the existing van from the live action shoot. We then created some of the surrounding water in 3D and composited the rest of the water and ice together from various plate elements. We also added splash elements and gunfire elements to the finished plate.

For this shot in the film, we composited the moving background plate of downtown Los Angeles outside the window of the train containing the actors.  Then we had to transition the camera through the window and pull away from the moving train.

We also did a sequence of shots involving a speed boat jumping and crashing. The driver was added in 3D.
